Torun tour

Torun tour from Warsaw

Torun, unlike Warsaw, Gdansk or other historic cities, did not suffer damage during World War II and therefore its world-renowned heritage is authentic. The city offers many historical, artistic and architectural values with a great historical meaning.

In Toruń, tourists often visit the oldest parts of the city with its numerous cozy alleys, for example the Medieval Urban Complex, consisting of three elements: The Old Town, the New Town and the Teutonic Castle. Here, the Gothic is at your fingertips, everywhere you look. The spirit of Nicolaus Copernicus has been watching over the city for over 500 years now, because that’s the place where the greatest astronomer of all times was born, raised and lived. In 1997, the entire Medieval Town Complex was inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List, which proves its worldwide rank, artistic and historical value. The uniqueness of the Torun Medieval Urban Ensemble is seen in its original medieval monumental buildings, both sacral and secular, representing the best achievements of Gothic brick architecture in Europe. The existence of those building is perceived as Torun's remarkable contribution to the universal history and the history of urban development in medieval Europe. The patrician houses preserved in Torun constitute the largest and best-preserved group of Gothic residential architecture in northern Europe. Feel the atmosphere of a Gothic city, take a stroll through the medieval streets among the brick Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque tenements, big churches, walls, gates and towers. Find out for yourself why UNESCO has recognized the Torun Old Town complex as the World Heritage of Humanity. Visit the famous Torun Old Town Hall, one of the largest, the most magnificent buildings of this kind in Europe. See the brick St. John's Cathedral with the seven-tone Tuba Dei bell, which remained the largest Polish medieval bell until the famous Zygmunt bell in Wawel was casted in bronze. Explore the taste of historical Torun gingerbreads and take a closer look at how they’re shaped, go to the Planetarium where you can see the starry sky in the middle of the day and make a space journey to distant planets.
